An orthopaedic surgeon is a medical specialist in the area of injuries related to the musculoskeletal system (joints, bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments). Our orthopedic surgery colleagues collaborate in determining the necessity for surgical intervention. Our orthopaedic specialists work with the AXiO team to assist you in returning to physical activity, sport and work in a timely and efficient manner. Please note that a medical reference is required for all orthopaedic surgery consultations. These consultations are covered by RAMQ.
The Concussion Evaluation and Treatment Program was created under the guidance of AXiO’s emergency physician Dr. J. Scott Delaney, head physician to the Cirque du Soleil and recipient of the Dr. Tom Pashby Sports Safety Fund Award honouring outstanding contributions toward the prevention of catastrophic injuries in sport and recreational activities. Dr. Delaney and Dr. Gabrielle Ostiguy are AXiO Health Group’s current Concussion Program physicians downtown. and Dr. Gaetan Drolet takes care of patients at the AXiO Sport Medicine Clinic in Vaudreuil. They work with AXiO’s team of osteopaths, athletic therapists and physiotherapists specializing in vestibular rehabilitation.
This program is available to individuals who wish to be evaluated prior to involvement in exercise or performing arts activities after head injury has occurred. AXiO Health Group’s Concussion Management Program includes the same tests that are currently used by the National Hockey League, the Canadian Football League, the Canadian Olympic teams, the Cirque du Soleil and other elite and professional sports teams and performing arts companies.

Traditionally, intra-articular injections were performed using anatomical landmarks. However, in recent years, ultrasound guidance has proven useful for injecting deeper anatomical structures — particularly in the shoulder, hip, and ankle joints.
AXiO’s physicians are skilled in performing injections using both anatomical landmarks and ultrasound guidance. Intra-articular corticosteroid injections provide rapid but moderate pain relief and short-term improvement in joint function (approximately 6 weeks) for patients suffering from osteoarthritis. Corticosteroid injections are very commonly used to treat joint inflammation.
If, despite consistent and appropriately timed first-line treatments, osteoarthritis symptoms persist, intra-articular injections may be considered. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a form of cellular therapy that involves drawing a small sample of your blood, then centrifuging it to separate the platelets from the red blood cells. The resulting plasma, enriched with concentrated platelets, is then injected into the joint affected by osteoarthritis to stimulate healing and regeneration.
